  • Rocks stress and its measurements
  • Rock mass classifications (RMR, Q)
  • New Austrian Tunneling Method
  • Norwegian Tunneling Method
  • Support recommendations (concrete, shotcrete)
  • Design of rock bolting in the light of rock mass type
  • Outline of Application of Finite Difference Method for geotechnical problems

Computer laboratories (12h)

  • Estimation of slope stability with the application of FLAC code (Fast Lagrangian Analysis of Continua)
  • Estimation of stability of underground openings with the application of FLAC
  • Estimation of stability of longwall with the application of FLAC
  • Estimation of tunnels with the application of FLAC

Laboratory experiments (12h)

  • Advanced triaxial testing of ground samples (GDS system)
  • Testing of soil properties (LA drum, edometric test etc.)
  • Testing of rock samples with stiff machine (post-failure investigations – MTS-system)

Practical excursion (12h)

  • Visit in underground coal mine
  • Visit in open-pit mine
